Although the locomotive was purchased privately, and various other costs have been (and continue to be) met privately, there was a need to consider early on in the project the question of dealing with any funds received by way of donations, sales and the like. The 37254 Fund was therefore set up to look after this income (and any expenditure), and the Fund's Consitution sets out the procedures which must be followed.
Adminstered by three nominated members of the Restoration Team who serve in an unpaid capacity - their respective roles are Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer - they look after the funds and any disbursements and the funds are held in a special account with a leading Building Society. Any income received is ring-fenced so that it can only be used for purposes in connection with the locomotive's restoration and ongoing preservation... such as the purchase and/or overhaul of parts. The income is derived presently from sales undertaken and donations received via the Fund's sales stand at various events - internet auction sales, though a useful source of income, have been put "on hold" for a while in view of the country's general financial situation and the Post Office's recent changes in postal arrangements (arrangements which have increased costs for purchasers and vendors alike!) - and The 37254 Fund is registered, as a Trader, with the Kent County Council. One useful source of income has been the A5-size booklet "Introducing 37254" (which has had two print runs already), and anyone visiting this website who would like to purchase a copy of the booklet - while stocks last! - is asked to get in touch by using the below; the booklet is priced at £1.25 including postage.
With so many Class 37 locomotives in preservation and therefore no "rarity" value as such, and the fact that various costs have been (and still are) met privately, neither 37254 nor The Fund would qualify for charitable status (the Fund's Honorary Treasurer used to administer various charities in his professional life so is aware what would, and what would not, qualify for possible charitable status). We have included this information as people have, from time to time, enquired whether The 37254 Fund is a charity and have expressed interest in our project.
