Its been a few months since our last update and things have been very busy as always not just on the loco side but the work front too. Nether the less a number of jobs have been completed on the loco. The faulty fuel injector on B1 cylinder has been replaced, thus eliminating the slight engine knock. All engine room doors have had their seals renewed making it ‘slightly’ quieter in the cabs and improving the draw from the locos cooling fan.
The loco is now due an engine oil change, the filters have just been delivered to me as I am in the process of writing this! This will be taking place over the next couple of weeks as part of a scheduled B exam.
The replacement bogies are progressing slowly but surely as and when time permits. All axle boxes have been stripped off in readiness for sending away for specialist welding repairs. This will also enable all bearings to be cleaned and examined by an outside contractor. Once completed reassembly can commence! Special thanks go to Allan Harris, Adrian Newman and the ‘Steam Boys’ for progressing this project.
On the operational side the loco completed 127 miles of fault free running over the Summer Diesel Gala weekend. In addition to this a number of Driver Experience courses will be taking place over the coming weeks as will a charter, watch this space for further details...
