February

Quite a significant day in the locomotive's history occurred today (13/02/2009) as this would see 254 carry nameplates for the first time in her 44-year history. 37254 now wears the plates ‘Driver Robin Prince M.B.E’ measuring in at no less than 2.3 metres!

The 37254 Fund is very proud to see the nameplates worn on the locomotive and to be able to honour a true friend and railwayman in this way. An official naming ceremony will be carried out at a latter date when the weather is a bit finer…

Chris, Allan, Dan, Rob and myself were on site at Tunbridge Wells West to fit the plates. The location was decided upon based on a few key factors, namely what was situated directly behind them? Careful marking out was needed to make sure all 40 bolts would not coincide with pipes, fittings, supports etc. Thanks to Rob that gave up a days overtime to drive the pilot for us. This enabled us to fit one side in the platform and the other in the yard.

February has also seen the group complete an ‘A’ exam and minor fault rectification. Testing work has also started on the AWS system with both cab bells ringing for the first time in at least a decade. The AWS receiver / Strap has found to be faulty and this will now be changed next time the locomotive is over a pit, then further testing / inspection work can be carried out.
