Happy New Year!
This year should be a very exciting year for 37254 & The Spa Valley Railway with the return to Eridge now on the horizon! This will see the loco running back into a mainline station along side mainline trains once again!
Chris, Dan, Adrian, Allan and myself decided to start the year off by undertaking a full clean and inspection of the locomotives electrical systems. This involved inspection and cleaning of all electrical machines as well as a full examination and vacuum out of the electrical cubicle. A couple of minor faults were found, a seized brush on number 2 compressor which was causing some minor arcing and AFC contactor had become very sticky. These two faults were rectified and hopefully will now see this side of the loco through the 2011 operating season.
The bogie overhaul is still progressing off site, all axle boxes have now gone away for specialist welding, this being one of the last jobs to be completed before the rebuild can commence. The bogie change could now take place towards the end of the 2011 operating season.
Due to the bogie overhaul taking slightly longer than originally anticipated the locomotive has undergone Ultra Sonic Axle (UAT) testing this month as the 5 year ticket expires in February.
A few modifications to the locomotive will be taking place over the coming weeks to improve reliability, more details will be published regarding this in the next update.
Driver Experience course enquires are now coming through thick and fast. Please contact us at the earliest opportunity if you wish to participate in one of these days to avoid disappointment.
Dan & Myself are in the process of organising a running day on Friday 24th June as it is both our 30th birthdays around this time. This will see an intensive all day timetable (hopefully to Eridge) utilising 37254 top and tailed with either the 33 or 73. More details regarding this will be published very shortly on the Roster page as are details of this years Diesel Galas and running days.
