July

254 was officially named “Driver Robin Prince M.B.E” during a private naming ceremony at Tunbridge Wells West station on the 4th of July by Bobs Widow Sheila Prince. This took place under the watchful eye of the deputy Mayor & Mayoress of Tunbridge Wells. Special thanks go to the following people who made this event a great success, Daniel Jenner for making the curtains and stand up for the unveiling which was no mean feat considering the length of the nameplates, Rob Blackman and Chris Barrow for the repaint which made the loco look considerably more presentable, Doug Barrow for the production of the ceremony leaflets and everyone who chipped in for the casting of the nameplates, which Bob would no doubt be very proud of, apologies in advance if I have missed anyone off.

The newly named engine then worked the 1505 Tunbridge Wells West to Groombridge service, with a brief photo stop at High Rocks for friends and family. The weather was on our side once again which made for a very pleasant trip.

The bogie overhaul is progressing well, both bogies are now stripped down ready for shot blasting and painting. More news on this to follow…

“The Stag & Syphon” tour is nearly upon us now. 3 Real Ales have been ordered which include “Harvey’s Best” & “Brains S.A” If you haven’t got a ticket yet, you can still pay on the day. See you all there!
