26th October: Alan and I began working through our spares stored off site. We will be examining and overhauling some of our spares this winter now that 254 has been drained down as a precaution against frost. Today we stripped and cleaned some of our spare horn valves. We found a couple of defective components on the second and third horn valves that we tackled, we used parts from both these horn valves to make one good one out of two. More horn valves have been prepared ready for stripping down, examining and cleaning next weekend.
Adrian commenced working on some of our electrical spare parts. The work consisted of removing switches from the various panels that we have bought over the years and then examining the switches for defects. Any switches found to have defects were put to one side ready for stripping for spare parts. Good switches were left ready for John to have a look at and test them after cleaning them. Adrian also worked with Alan preparing a piece of panelling in the coach for replacement necessary because of water ingress suffered before the support coach was bought.
