September
Work has progressed very well with our bogie overhaul project this month. The bogie frames were lifted from the wheelsets and have subsequently been sent away for shot blasting and painting. They are due back to us within the next week to ten days. When they have returned work will progress with axle box and horn guide repairs. Chris, Rob and the gang have done extremely well with the stripping, cleaning and painting of 90 percent of the brake gear and spiders. I have started cleaning the traction motors inside and out and have pencilled a few more days in the diary to continue with this. Please see our new Bogie Overhaul Project Gallery for regular updates.
The loco had a vacuum brake fault over the September Diesel Gala; this meant she had to run around with 73140 as a brake translator. The problem being the Vacuum side of the AV2 control Valve (proportionally drops the air / vac train pipe). On inspection we found that the diaphragms had perished. A new one is on order and the loco should be back in traffic for her October duties.
We also ran a Driver Experience Course this month, this time with some air braked stock giving the GLV a rare outing! Chris, I hope you and the family had a great time! I know we did!
